Sad realization...

This week while I was at the Urbana conference spending a lot of time listening to very wise men and women try to bring their brilliance down to my level and squeeze it into my little brain a lot of them were talking about the American perception of Africans. It's pretty sad. I think this BBC Africa article I read this morning, especially the beginning, explain it pretty well. Worth the read.

Kevin,
Finally saw "Blood Diamond". It came out in the UK yesterday finally! Sometimes it seems that we are miles behind the US on film releases. It was a great film - made me wonder a bit about my engagement ring though. It was rather heart wrenching to see the child soldiers - particularly after having met a few who "got out" in Uganda. Yet again another film about Africa that makes my guts churn with a deep yearning to go back and do somethig practical to help.

Kevin,

I didn't know you went to Urbana in the lovely city of St. Louis! Pretty awesome conference, huh?! I went to Urbana 03 with a small group from KU, which really impacted the experience I had there. We went to almost all the sessions together and spent much of our meal time discussing what God was impressing on our hearts and minds during the week.

Glad you got to go.
